Target Information
Programmed cell death 5 (PDCD5), a human apoptosis-related protein, plays an early and universal role in apoptosis. PDCD5 is widely expressed and upregulated in cells undergoing apoptosis, where it rapidly translocates from the cytoplasm to the nucleus. It has a compact core structure with two mobile N-terminal alpha-helices and a flexible unstructured C-terminal region. Charged residues are crucial for its apoptosis-promoting and translocation abilities. PDCD5 enhances TAJ/TROY-induced paraptosis-like cell death and acts as a Tip60 co-activator in the Tip60 pathway. Nucleotide polymorphisms in the PDCD5 promoter region may influence leukemia and lung cancer susceptibility.
