Target Information
The C/EBP (CCAAT/enhancer binding protein) family of transcription factors—alpha, beta, delta, and epsilon—are widely expressed proteins found in various tissues. These proteins contain an evolutionarily conserved five-amino acid regulatory domain motif (RDM) that conforms to the consensus sequence (I/V/L)KXEP.
C/EBP transcription factors play major roles in metabolic regulation in liver and adipose tissues and act in cascades promoting adipocyte differentiation.
Three C/EBP beta isoforms (LAP*, LAP, and LIP) arise from different translation initiation sites and have distinct roles in gene regulation.
In the nervous system, C/EBPs are involved in nerve growth factor signaling, synaptic plasticity modulation, and inflammatory response regulation in Alzheimer’s disease.
