Target Information
The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. It is commonly activated in various tumor cells and plays a critical role in cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression.
Phosphorylation at Thr58/Ser62 by kinases such as glycogen synthase kinase 3, ERK2, and JNK is associated with cell proliferation and cycle regulation.
c-Myc is essential for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis in tumor development. Deregulated expression induces apoptosis in multiple cell types.
Antibodies against c-Myc epitopes recognize overexpressed proteins containing Myc epitope tags. Amplification of the c-Myc gene is found in several human tumors including lung, breast, and colon carcinomas.
Translocation of the c-Myc locus on chromosome 8 to immunoglobulin loci is described in Burkitt’s lymphoma and other B-cell lymphoproliferative conditions. Aberrant expression occurs in tumors of diverse origins such as colorectal, gastric, hepatic, mammary, ovarian, and hematopoietic neoplasms.
For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. Not for resale without express authorization.
