Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. Purity is >95% (by SDS-PAGE).
Target Information
This gene encodes uromodulin, the most abundant protein in normal urine. Its excretion follows proteolytic cleavage of the ectodomain of its glycosyl phosphatidylinositol-anchored counterpart located on the luminal surface of the loop of Henle.
Uromodulin may act as a constitutive inhibitor of calcium crystallization in renal fluids and may provide defense against urinary tract infections caused by uropathogenic bacteria.
Defects in this gene are associated with autosomal dominant renal disorders such as medullary cystic kidney disease-2 (MCKD2) and familial juvenile hyperuricemic nephropathy (FJHN), characterized by juvenile onset of hyperuricemia, gout, and progressive renal failure.
Several transcript variants exist, with two major variants encoding the same isoform.
