Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the neurotrophin family, which controls survival and differentiation of mammalian neurons. It is closely related to nerve growth factor and brain-derived neurotrophic factor. This protein may be involved in maintenance of the adult nervous system and neuronal development in embryos, particularly when expressed in human placenta. NTF3-deficient mice exhibit severe limb movement defects. The mature peptide is identical across mammals such as human, pig, rat, and mouse.
