ATF1 유전자는 ATF 하위패밀리 및 bZIP (basic-region leucine zipper) 패밀리에 속하는 전사 활성 인자를 암호화합니다. 이 단백질은 세포 성장, 생존 및 기타 생리적 과정에 관련된 하위 유전자들의 발현을 조절합니다. Ser63 잔기에서 여러 세린/트레오닌 키나아제에 의해 인산화되며, 이 인산화는 전사 활성 및 세포 변형을 촉진합니다. 또한, 염색체 전좌에 의해 FUS(염색체 16) 또는 EWSR1(염색체 22)과 융합되어 특정 육종에서 융합 단백질을 생성할 수 있습니다. 이 유전자는 염색체 6에 가성유전자를 가지고 있습니다.
