Target Information
WNK is a serine/threonine kinase that plays an important role in the regulation of electrolyte homeostasis, cell signaling, survival, and proliferation. It acts as both an activator and inhibitor of sodium- and potassium-coupled chloride cotransporters, respectively. WNK activates SCNN1A, SCNN1B, SCNN1D, and SGK1, and localizes to the distal nephron, a kidney segment involved in salt, potassium, and pH homeostasis. Mutations in the WNK gene are associated with pseudohypoaldosteronism and neuropathy.
