Target Information
The SPARC gene encodes a cysteine-rich acidic matrix-associated protein. This protein is required for collagen in bone to become calcified and is involved in extracellular matrix synthesis and modulation of cell shape. It has been linked to both tumor suppression and metastasis, depending on cellular context. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
