Target Information
The FCAR gene belongs to the immunoglobulin gene superfamily and encodes a receptor for the Fc region of IgA.
This receptor is a transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on myeloid lineage cells such as neutrophils, monocytes, macrophages, and eosinophils.
It mediates immunologic responses to pathogens by interacting with IgA-opsonized targets and triggering defense mechanisms including:
- Phagocytosis
- Antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity
- Release of inflammatory mediators
Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
