This antibody recognizes an extracellular epitope of CD28, a disulfide-linked homodimeric type I glycoprotein (monomer of Mw 44 kDa) which is a critical costimulatory receptor of T cells.
Target Information
CD28 antigen is a 44 kDa disulfide-linked homodimeric T cell-specific surface glycoprotein. It belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily and is constitutively expressed on most peripheral blood T lymphocytes. CD28 provides the essential second activation signal to T cells by binding CD80 and CD86 on antigen-presenting cells, preventing anergy and premature apoptosis.
In murine lymphoid organs, CD4⁺ and CD8⁺ T cells express CD28, with highest expression in immature thymocytes.
Diseases associated with CD28 dysfunction include mycosis fungoides and Sezary’s disease.
