Target Information
ZEB2, also known as Smad interacting-protein 1 (SIP1), is a nuclear DNA-binding transcriptional repressor that interacts with activated SMADs. Similar to ZEB1, it inhibits E-cadherin transcription and induces epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), a key process in embryonic development and wound healing. ZEB2 also plays a role in protecting cells from DNA damage-induced apoptosis, potentially contributing to tumor progression. Its cytoplasmic localization in various cancer tissues suggests differential regulation between normal and tumor cells. Mutations in ZEB2 are associated with Hirschsprung disease/Mowat-Wilson syndrome.
