Target Information
Metadherin (MTDH, also known as LYRIC) is a metastasis adhesion protein that localizes with tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin in polarized epithelial cells. It participates in tight junction maturation rather than structural formation.
MTDH is overexpressed in breast cancer tissues and xenografts, but expressed at low levels in normal breast tissue. It binds to lung vasculature via its C-terminal extracellular domain, and blocking this domain with antibodies or siRNA can inhibit breast cancer metastasis.
