Target Information
Autophagy is the process of bulk degradation of cellular proteins through an autophagosomic-lysosomal pathway, essential for normal growth control and often defective in tumor cells.
It maintains cellular nutrients under starvation and regulates cytosolic component turnover.
This process is negatively regulated by TOR (Target of rapamycin) through phosphorylation of autophagy protein APG1.
ATG9B plays a role in autophagy and is highly expressed in the placenta and pituitary gland.
