Anti-Hexokinase is an IgG fraction antibody purified from monospecific antiserum by delipidation, salt fractionation, and ion exchange chromatography, followed by extensive dialysis. Immunoelectrophoresis shows a single precipitin arc against anti-Biotin, anti-Rabbit Serum, and purified Hexokinase [Yeast]. Cross-reactivity with other species’ Hexokinase may occur but has not been determined.

Target Information

Hexokinases catalyze the phosphorylation of glucose to glucose-6-phosphate, the first step in glucose metabolism. The gene encodes a mitochondrial outer membrane-associated form. Mutations can cause hemolytic anemia due to hexokinase deficiency. Alternative splicing generates multiple isoforms, some tissue-specific, differing at the N-terminus but identical in the remaining sequence. A sixth transcript variant exists but likely does not encode a functional protein.
