Product Specific Information
This antibody detects an extracellular epitope of CD11b (integrin alphaM subunit), a type I transmembrane protein mainly expressed on monocytes/macrophages, granulocytes, and NK-cells. It associates with CD18 to form the Mac-1 integrin, which plays an important role in cell-cell interactions.
Endotoxin level is less than 0.01 EU/µg of protein, as determined by the LAL test.
Functional Application: Blocking.
Target Information
CD11b (integrin alpha-M, ITGAM, integrin alpha-X, ITGAX) is a 165 kDa adhesion molecule that associates non-covalently with integrin beta-2 (CD18). The CD11b/CD18 complex (Mac-1, CR3) acts as a receptor for ICAMs, CD14, CD50, CD23, heparin, iC3b, fibrinogen, and Factor X, mediating cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions.
CD11b is expressed on monocytes/macrophages, granulocytes, activated lymphocytes, subsets of NK and dendritic cells, and microglia. Expression increases during monocyte maturation and varies among tissue macrophages. It is commonly used as a microglial marker in nervous tissue.
Diseases associated with CD11b dysfunction include systemic lupus erythematosus and ITGAM-related susceptibility to autoimmune disorders.
