Product Specific Information
MA1-06326 detects cytokeratin 18 in human, mouse, rat, hamster, rabbit, chicken, canine, zebrafish, and swine samples.
It has been successfully used in Western blotting, immunocytochemistry, flow cytometry, and immunohistochemistry.
The immunogen is a cytoskeletal preparation from HeLa cells.
Store at 4ºC or in small aliquots at -20ºC.
Target Information
Cytokeratin 18 (Keratin 18, KRT18, type I cytoskeletal 18) belongs to the type A (acidic) subfamily of low molecular weight keratins and exists in combination with cytokeratin 8.
It is expressed in tissues of the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and urogenital tracts, as well as endocrine, exocrine, and mesothelial cells.
Cytokeratin 18 is found primarily in non-squamous epithelia and in most adenocarcinomas and ductal carcinomas, but not in squamous cell carcinomas.
Hepatocellular carcinomas express only cytokeratins 8 and 18.
Mutations in the cytokeratin 18 gene are linked to cryptogenic cirrhosis.
Two transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
Cytokeratin subtype expression patterns assist in distinguishing epithelial malignancies and are useful in differential diagnosis, cytopathology, and flow cytometry assays.
