This antibody detects endogenous NRXN3 protein at a molecular weight of approximately 180 kDa.
Purity is >95% by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
Neurexins are a family of neuronal cell surface proteins, including neurexin I (NRXN1), neurexin II (NRXN2), neurexin III (NRXN3), and Caspr (neurexin IV).
Neurexins I–III exist as α and β isoforms:
- α isoforms contain three cassettes with two LNS (Laminin A, Neurexins, Sex hormone-binding) domains separated by EGF domains, followed by a transmembrane region and a 55 amino acid cytoplasmic C-terminal. They bind to neurexophilins and α-latrotoxin.
- β isoforms have one LNS domain, bind to neuroligins, and are involved in synapse formation and remodeling.
Caspr (Contactin-Associated Protein 1, Paranodin in mouse) shares structural similarity with neurexins and interacts with surface glycoprotein Contactin. Caspr and Caspr2, homologs of Drosophila Neurexin IV (Nrx-IV), define distinct subdomains in myelinated axons:
- Caspr localizes at paranodal junctions.
- Caspr2 colocalizes with Shaker-like K⁺ channels in the juxtaparanodal region.
Caspr may play a role in neuron–glia communication during development.
