Target Information
Voltage-gated potassium channels are a large and diverse class of ion channels found in both excitable and nonexcitable cells. They regulate resting membrane potential and control the shape and frequency of action potentials.
The alpha subunits are either functional by themselves or electrically silent but capable of modulating functional subunits.
The KCNS3-encoded protein is not functional alone but forms heteromultimers with other Shab-related potassium channel proteins (members 1 and 2).
This gene belongs to the S subfamily of potassium channel family. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
