Target Information
Capsid protein self-assembles to form an icosahedral capsid with T=1 symmetry, about 22 nm in diameter, consisting of 60 copies of three size variants (VP1, VP2, VP3) differing in their N-terminus. The capsid encapsulates genomic ssDNA and binds to host cell heparan sulfate, using ITGA5-ITGB1 as a coreceptor for attachment. This induces virion internalization via clathrin-dependent endocytosis and capsid rearrangements that expose the VP1 N-terminus, which contains a phospholipase A2-like region and nuclear localization signals. The VP1 N-terminus may act as a lipolytic enzyme to breach the endosomal membrane and facilitate nuclear transport.
