Product Specific Information
1 µg/mL of MA5-45203 was sufficient for detection of ubiquitin in 10 µg of HeLa lysate by colorimetric immunoblot analysis using Goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as the secondary antibody. Detects approximately 10 kDa.
Target Information
Ubiquitin is a highly conserved protein that plays a major role in targeting cellular proteins for degradation by the 26S proteasome. It is synthesized as a precursor protein consisting of either polyubiquitin chains or a single ubiquitin fused to an unrelated protein. The gene encodes a fusion protein consisting of ubiquitin at the N-terminus and ribosomal protein S27a at the C-terminus. Post-translational processing generates free ubiquitin monomer and ribosomal protein S27a, which is part of the 40S ribosomal subunit. Similar fusion proteins exist for ribosomal proteins L40 and S30. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same proteins have been identified.
