Target Information
The VDAC2 gene encodes a voltage-dependent anion channel protein that forms pores in the mitochondrial outer membrane, allowing metabolite diffusion. It is involved in the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway through regulation of BCL2-antagonist/killer 1 protein activity. Pseudogenes exist on chromosomes 1, 2, 12, and 21, and alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants.
