Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum using an epitope-specific immunogen. Purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are enzymes involved in extracellular matrix degradation. Among the sixteen known MMPs, ten exist in soluble form, while membrane-type MMPs (MT-MMPs) are integral membrane proteins.
MT1-MMP, MT2-MMP, and MT3-MMP—also known as MMP14, MMP15, and MMP16—contain a C-terminal transmembrane domain anchoring them to the cell surface and an 8-amino-acid insert in the catalytic domain.
MT1-MMP activates progelatinase A (MMP-2) and progelatinase B, while MT2-MMP contributes to pro-MMP-2 activation in breast carcinomas. Coexpression of MT1-MMP and MT2-MMP in advanced breast cancer suggests a role for MT2-MMP in metastasis.
