Target Information
CD14 is a 55 kDa GPI-anchored glycoprotein expressed on the surface of mature monocytes, macrophages, and neutrophils. It functions as a multifunctional lipopolysaccharide receptor and exists in both membrane-bound and soluble forms. CD14 interacts with lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (LBP) to bind lipopolysaccharides and plays a role in neutralizing serum lipopolysaccharides. It also binds apoptotic cells and is involved in allergic, inflammatory, and infectious processes. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding the same CD14 isoform. CD14 dysfunction is associated with diseases such as Mycobacterium chelonae infection and Croup.
