Target Information
CAMK2A (CaMKII alpha) is a serine/threonine kinase regulating neuronal processes, gene expression, carbohydrate metabolism, cytoskeletal function, and calcium homeostasis.
Autophosphorylation of threonine 286 activates CAMK2A, enabling calmodulin-independent activity.
CaMKII is widely expressed and involved in cell cycle regulation, transcription, dendritic spine and synapse formation, neuronal plasticity, and calcium transport in skeletal muscle.
In neurons, it plays a structural role in actin cytoskeleton reorganization during plasticity by binding and bundling actin filaments independently of kinase activity.
