Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family. PTPs are signaling molecules regulating various cellular processes such as growth, differentiation, mitotic cycle, and oncogenic transformation.
This PTP includes two tandem Src homology-2 domains that mediate phospho-tyrosine binding and substrate interaction. It is broadly expressed and plays a regulatory role in cell signaling related to mitogenic activation, metabolic control, transcription regulation, and cell migration.
Mutations in this gene are associated with Noonan syndrome and acute myeloid leukemia.
