Target Information

This gene is ubiquitously expressed and involved in the transcriptional coactivation of many transcription factors. Initially identified as a nuclear protein binding to CREB, it plays essential roles in embryonic development, growth control, and homeostasis by linking chromatin remodeling to transcription factor recognition. The encoded protein has intrinsic histone acetyltransferase activity and serves as a scaffold for stabilizing transcription complex interactions. It acetylates both histone and non-histone proteins and shares high sequence similarity with p300 in several domains. Mutations cause Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome (RTS), and chromosomal translocations are linked to acute myeloid leukemia. Multiple transcript variants exist due to alternative splicing.
