This LP3K monoclonal antibody reacts with human cytokeratin 8 (K8), a 55-kDa intermediate filament protein expressed in epithelial and carcinoma cells. Cytokeratin 8, a type II (basic) keratin, forms part of the intracellular cytoskeletal network that maintains cell and tissue integrity. It plays roles in protection against apoptosis, stress response, and cell cycle regulation. Typically co-expressed with cytokeratin 18 (type I keratin) as a heterodimer, cytokeratin 8 is mainly cytoplasmic but can localize to the plasma membrane in some tumor cells. It is phosphorylated on serine 73 during cell division.

Validated for use in Western blot (WB) and immunocytochemistry (ICC).
Applications Tested:
- Western blot: 1–10 µg/mL using reduced A549 cell lysate
- Immunocytochemistry: 1 µg/mL in A549 cells

Target Information
Cytokeratin 8 belongs to the type II keratin family located on chromosome 12. Type I and II keratins form intermediate filaments in epithelial cells, maintaining structural integrity and participating in signal transduction and differentiation. Cytokeratin 8 typically pairs with cytokeratin 18 in simple epithelial cells. Mutations in this gene are associated with cryptogenic cirrhosis.
