SATB1은 AT-rich 서열 및 nuclear matrix-associated 영역에 결합하며, 이중가닥 DNA의 구조를 인식합니다. 또한 SATB1은 인산화 및 아세틸화 상태에 따라 핵 및 바이러스 유전자 발현을 조절하는 전사 억제인자로 작용합니다. T세포 성숙 과정에서 CD8SP 형성에 필수적인 유전자 발현을 조절하며, HIV-1 통합 기작과도 관련된 독특한 염색질 환경을 형성합니다.
