Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases는 해당 아미노산과 tRNA의 아미노아실화를 촉매합니다. 이 효소들은 아미노산과 tRNA의 결합을 매개하는 핵심 역할을 하며, 진화 초기에 등장한 단백질로 여겨집니다.
Tryptophanyl-tRNA synthetase(WARS)는 세포질형과 미토콘드리아형(WARS2) 두 가지 형태로 존재하며, tRNA(trp)에 tryptophan을 결합시키는 반응을 촉매하고 interferon에 의해 유도됩니다. 이 효소는 class I tRNA synthetase 계열에 속하며, 4개의 전사 변이가 두 가지 서로 다른 isoform을 암호화합니다.
