Target Information
Collapsin-response mediator proteins (CRMPs) are highly expressed in the developing brain and play key roles in axonal outgrowth, neurite differentiation, and apoptosis. Their persistent expression in regions of high synaptic remodeling—such as the cerebellum, hippocampus, and olfactory system—suggests involvement in adult brain plasticity.
CRMP-1, initially identified as a dihydro-pyrimidinase expressed exclusively in the brain, is implicated in neurotrophin (NT) 3-induced neurite formation and outgrowth. Its localization shifts from axonal to somatodendritic regions as neurons mature, indicating roles in both early neuronal differentiation and later processes related to neuronal survival or death.
