Product Specific Information
- This antibody does not react with Mouse or Rat.
- For Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 min.
Target Information
Ep-CAM (epithelial adhesion molecule, epithelial specific antigen, ESA) is a transmembrane glycoprotein expressed in epithelial cells (~40 kDa). It acts as a calcium-independent cell adhesion molecule and influences cell cycle, proliferation, and metabolism through activation of c-myc and cyclin A/E genes.
Ep-CAM-mediated adhesions negatively regulate cadherin-mediated adhesions, affecting epithelial differentiation and growth. Overexpression correlates with enhanced epithelial proliferation and is highly expressed in human carcinomas, serving as a marker for epithelial lineage tumors.
Ep-CAM is localized on the basolateral surface of most simple epithelia and carcinoma types and can distinguish adenocarcinomas from pleural mesotheliomas.
