Target Information
Isocitrate dehydrogenases catalyze the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to 2-oxoglutarate. These enzymes belong to two distinct subclasses, one utilizing NAD(+) and the other NADP(+) as electron acceptors. Five isocitrate dehydrogenases have been reported: three NAD(+)-dependent forms located in the mitochondrial matrix and two NADP(+)-dependent forms, one mitochondrial and one predominantly cytosolic. The NADP(+)-dependent isozyme is a homodimer found in cytoplasm and peroxisomes, containing a PTS-1 peroxisomal targeting signal sequence. This enzyme contributes to NADPH regeneration for peroxisomal reductions and cytoplasmic NADPH production.
