Target Information
Cell-mediated immune responses are initiated by T lymphocytes stimulated by peptides bound to MHC molecules on antigen-presenting cells (APC). Activated T cells express inhibitory receptors such as PD-1 (PDCD-1), which mediate signals from APC to limit immune activation. PD-1 binds to two ligands, PDL-1 and PDL-2, and upon binding, inhibits immune responses in the absence of danger signals (e.g., LPS). PD-1 knockout mice exhibit hyperactivated immune systems and autoimmune diseases. Despite its predicted molecular weight, PD-1 often migrates at higher molecular weight in SDS-PAGE.
