Target Information

MAPK7 (ERK5) serine/threonine kinase is a member of the MAP kinase family involved in various cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, transcription regulation, and development.
It is activated by MAP2K5/MEK5 and participates in downstream signaling of multiple receptors. Upon stimulation, MAPK7 translocates to the nucleus to regulate gene expression by phosphorylating transcription factors.
Deletion of MAPK7 in mice causes defective cardiovascular development and embryonic lethality, indicating its essential role in endothelial function and vascular integrity.
ERK5 is expressed in many adult tissues, including heart, placenta, lung, kidney, and skeletal muscle, but not in liver.
