BRCA1 (breast and ovarian cancer susceptibility protein 1)은 핵 인산단백질로, 유전체 안정성을 유지하고 종양 억제 기능을 수행합니다.
BRCA1은 RNA polymerase II 및 histone deacetylase 복합체와 상호작용하며, 전사 조절, 이중 가닥 DNA 절단의 복구 및 재조합 과정에 관여합니다.
BRCA1 유전자 변이는 유전성 유방암의 약 40%, 유전성 유방 및 난소암의 80% 이상과 관련이 있습니다.
또한 대체 스플라이싱을 통해 다양한 전사 변이체가 존재하며, 일부는 질병 관련 돌연변이로 보고되었습니다.
관련된 유사유전자가 염색체 17에 존재합니다.
