Target Information
Neurofilaments (NFs) are intermediate filaments expressed almost exclusively in neuronal cells, especially in large axons. They consist of three polypeptide chains — NF-M, NF-H, and NF-L — sharing structural similarity but differing in terminal regions. NF-M tail-mediated interactions are essential for axonal architecture and are regulated by phosphorylation and O-GlcNAcylation. Antibodies against neurofilament subunits serve as reliable neuronal markers due to their abundance and stability.
