Target Information
Acidic and basic fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) are multifunctional polypeptide growth factors that stimulate proliferation of mesenchymal, epithelial, and neuro-ectodermal cells. FGFs act by binding and activating specific cell surface receptors. Six members of the FGF receptor family have been identified and cloned: FGFR-1 (Flg), FGFR-2 (BEK), FGFR-3, FGFR-4, FGFR-5, and FGFR-6.
FGFR-5 lacks the cytoplasmic kinase domain and is expressed in various tissues including kidney, brain, and lung, with preferential expression in pancreas, suggesting a role in pancreatic function regulation.
