Target Information
Sorcin is a 198-amino acid, soluble, calcium-binding cytosolic protein belonging to the penta-EF hand (PEF) family. It contains four EF-hand calcium-binding motifs and shares 95% sequence identity with hamster Sorcin. Sorcin associates with sarcolemmal proteins such as Annexin VII, cardiac ryanodine receptors, and L-type Ca²⁺ channels, influencing intracellular calcium homeostasis. It plays a critical role in calcium cycling and influx in heart and skeletal muscle during excitation-contraction. Sorcin is overexpressed in many multidrug-resistant (MDR) cells, regulating apoptosis pathways, and serves as a potential marker for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) prognosis and a target for anti-MDR drug development.
