Target Information
USP7 (also known as HAUSP) is a ubiquitin-specific protease that removes ubiquitin from its substrates. It plays a crucial role in regulating the stability of cellular proteins, particularly by antagonizing Mdm2, the E3 ubiquitin ligase for the tumor suppressor protein p53. By deubiquitinating p53, HAUSP stabilizes p53 and prevents its degradation, suggesting a tumor suppressor function in response to cellular stress. Additionally, HAUSP may provide an alternative pathway for protecting cells from oncogenic insults through ARF-dependent and ARF-independent mechanisms.
