Store vial at 4°C prior to restoration. For extended storage, aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below. Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing. Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature. This product is stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only prior to immediate use.

Anti-HEXOKINASE (RABBIT) Antibody is an IgG fraction antibody purified from monospecific antiserum by a multi-step process including delipidation, salt fractionation, and ion exchange chromatography, followed by extensive dialysis against the specified buffer. Assay by immunoelectrophoresis resulted in a single precipitin arc against anti-peroxidase, anti-Rabbit Serum, as well as purified and partially purified Hexokinase [Yeast]. Cross-reactivity against Hexokinase from other tissues and species is expected based on sequence homology.

Target Information

Hexokinases phosphorylate glucose to produce glucose-6-phosphate, the first step in most glucose metabolism pathways. This gene encodes a ubiquitous form of hexokinase that localizes to the outer membrane of mitochondria. Mutations in this gene have been associated with hemolytic anemia due to hexokinase deficiency. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms, some of which are tissue-specific. Each isoform has a distinct N-terminus, while the remainder of the protein is identical among all isoforms. A sixth transcript variant has been described but is not thought to encode a protein due to several stop codons.
