Target Information
PDZK1 is a scaffold protein that connects plasma membrane proteins and regulatory components, regulating their surface expression in epithelial cells' apical domains. It may coordinate various regulatory processes for ion transport and second messenger cascades. In complex with SLC9A3R1, it clusters functionally dependent proteins and modulates associated membrane protein trafficking and activity. PDZK1 may also be involved in multidrug resistance mechanisms through interactions with ABCC2 and PDZK1IP1, and may potentiate CFTR chloride channel activity. It connects SCARB1 with intracellular cholesterol transport machinery and may regulate proximal tubular Na(+)-dependent inorganic phosphate cotransport, playing a key role in tubule function.
