Target Information
Histidine triad nucleotide-binding protein 1 (HINT1) is a member of the histidine triad (HIT) protein family, composed of small nucleotide-binding and hydrolyzing proteins. HINT1 interacts with multiple proteins and is suggested to have tumor suppressive activity. It catalyzes the hydrolysis of adenosine 5'-monophosphoramidate substrates such as AMP-morpholidate, though this enzymatic function may not be directly related to its tumor suppression. HINT1 forms a complex with POSH and JNK in vivo, inhibiting AP-1 activity and c-Jun phosphorylation, which may contribute to its tumor suppressor activity. Additionally, HINT1 has been proposed as a candidate gene for schizophrenia.
