Target Information
Cyclins are regulatory subunits of Cdc2 p34 and related cyclin-dependent kinases (Cdks), which play key roles in controlling cell cycle progression.
- Cyclin A and B form complexes with Cdc2 p34 kinase to regulate G2–M and S phase transitions.
- G1–S transition is controlled by G1 cyclins such as Cyclin D1, which associates with Cdk2, Cdk4, and Cdk5.
- Cyclin E interacts with Cdk2 during the G1–S transition.
- Cyclin G contains an N-terminal cyclin box and a C-terminal domain homologous to the tyrosine phosphorylation site of the epidermal growth factor receptor.
- Cyclin G expression is induced within 3 hours after growth stimulation and remains elevated without apparent cell cycle dependency.
- Cyclin G2 shares 53% sequence identity with Cyclin G1, with peak expression in late S phase, whereas Cyclin G1 expression is constitutive.
