Target Information
TNF alpha is a multifunctional proinflammatory cytokine that belongs to the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) superfamily. It is mainly secreted by macrophages and binds to receptors TNFRSF1A/TNFR1 and TNFRSF1B/TNFBR. TNF alpha regulates immune cells, cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, lipid metabolism, and coagulation. It exists as multimers and shows a single 17 kDa band under non-reducing SDS-PAGE conditions. Knockout studies in mice suggest neuroprotective roles and tumor necrosis activity. TNF alpha is involved in immune responses to various infections and plays roles in autoimmune diseases, insulin resistance, and cancer.
