Target Information
GAPDH (Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase) is a catalytic enzyme involved in glycolysis. It exists as a tetramer of identical 37 kDa subunits and catalyzes the reversible reduction of 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate to glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate in the presence of NADPH.
Beyond glycolysis, GAPDH is ubiquitously expressed and participates in various cellular processes such as DNA replication, repair, nuclear RNA export, membrane fusion, and microtubule bundling. It plays roles in apoptosis, neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer-related neuronal apoptosis. GAPDH interacts with proteins such as amyloid precursor protein (linked to Alzheimer’s disease) and Huntingtin (linked to Huntington’s disease).
Due to its high expression in most tissues, GAPDH serves as a reliable protein loading control in Western blot analysis.
