By Western blot, PA1-987-HRP detects GAPDH at approximately 37 kDa band in human, mouse, and rat whole cell lysates.
Target Information
GAPDH (Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase) is a catalytic enzyme involved in glycolysis. It exists as a tetramer of identical 37-kDa subunits and catalyzes the reversible reduction of 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate to glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate in the presence of NADPH.
Beyond glycolysis, GAPDH is ubiquitously expressed and participates in multiple cellular processes including:
- DNA replication and repair
- Nuclear RNA export
- Membrane fusion and microtubule bundling
- Gene expression regulation in apoptosis
- Cellular mechanisms related to neurodegenerative diseases
GAPDH also interacts with amyloid precursor protein (linked to Alzheimer’s disease) and Huntingtin protein (linked to Huntington’s disease). Due to its high expression in most tissues, GAPDH serves as a reliable protein loading control in Western blot analysis.
