Target Information
TRPCs are mammalian homologs of the Drosophila transient receptor potential (trp) protein and function as ion channels mediating capacitative calcium entry.
TRP-PLIK is a dual-function protein acting as both an ion channel and a kinase.
- As a channel: conducts calcium and monovalent cations to depolarize cells and increase intracellular calcium.
- As a kinase: capable of autophosphorylation and phosphorylation of other substrates.
- Kinase activity is essential for channel function, dependent on intracellular ATP and shown by kinase mutants.
