Target Information
TRPCs are mammalian homologs of the Drosophila transient receptor potential (trp) protein and function as ion channels mediating capacitative calcium entry into cells.
TRP-PLIK is a dual-function protein acting both as an ion channel and a kinase.
As a channel, it conducts calcium and monovalent cations to depolarize cells and increase intracellular calcium.
As a kinase, it can phosphorylate itself and other substrates.
The kinase activity is essential for channel function, dependent on intracellular ATP and influenced by kinase mutants.
