Product Specific Information
In direct ELISAs and Western blots, approximately 30% cross-reactivity with recombinant human Integrin beta 2 and recombinant mouse Integrin beta 6 is observed. Less than 5% cross-reactivity is observed with recombinant mouse Integrin beta 1, beta 4, and beta 7.
Target Information
CD18 (Integrin beta 2 subunit) is a 90 kDa type I transmembrane protein expressed on all leukocytes.
It forms heterodimers with CD11 molecules (CD11a–d) to create leukocyte β2 integrins:
- αLβ2 (CD11a/CD18, LFA-1)
- αMβ2 (CD11b/CD18, Mac-1, CR3)
- αXβ2 (CD11c/CD18)
- αDβ2 (CD11d/CD18)
These integrins are essential for leukocyte adhesion and migration.
Deficiency or reduced expression of CD18 leads to leukocyte adhesion deficiency type I (LAD1) and related immune dysfunctions.
CD18 also mediates leukotoxin-induced cytolysis by Mannheimia haemolytica.
Two transcript variants encoding CD18 have been identified.
