NANOG (Nanog homeobox)는 미분화된 배아줄기세포의 다능성과 분화를 조절하는 홈도메인 단백질입니다.
NANOG mRNA는 다능성 인간 및 마우스 세포주에서 발현되며, 분화된 세포에서는 발현되지 않습니다.
인간 NANOG 단백질은 마우스 단백질과 전체 아미노산 서열의 52%, 홈도메인에서는 85%의 상동성을 가집니다.
인간 NANOG 유전자는 12p13.31에 위치하며, 마우스 NANOG는 6 F2에 위치합니다.
연구에 따르면 NANOG는 배반포의 내세포괴에서 발현되며, iPS 세포 형성에도 관여합니다.
또한 NANOG는 세포의 S기 진입과 증식을 촉진하며, 배아암 및 생식세포암 등과 관련이 있습니다.
